Status: Design-Build Construction Starting June 2021
The College View neighborhood was first identified in the 2014 Addendum to the Comprehensive Flooding Plan by Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LTD. (CBBEL). Approximately 17 homes were identified as having possible overland flooding with an estimated street flooding depth up to 2 feet.
Over the last several years the City of Elmhurst, with the help of CBBEL, has evaluated options for flood reduction in this neighborhood. The most cost-effective option is to provide a new large underground detention basin at the York High School site where flood water would be transmitted to during severe rain events. The City of Elmhurst and School District 205 have entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement whereby the City is given permission to construct this Public flood reduction project.
In 2021 the CBBEL and the City agreed to a Design-Build Construction contract that will facilitate the installation of 8.9 ac-ft of underground detention, at the York High School site, and associated storm piping near the Berkley/Alma intersection. The $4.7 M Design-Build contract will facilitate flood-reduction benefits for all of the 17 effected homes in the neighborhood.
Construction is expected to start in June of 2021 and be completed by the end of 2021.
