Scheduled Rock Blasting was performed at the Elmhurst Quarry on Friday, September 16th at 4:25 p.m. Ludwig Explosives, a contractor who has been hired by the City of Elmhurst, performed the scheduled rock blasting in conjunction with the Walnut/Myrtle/Evergreen Stormwater Improvement Project. The contractor sounded a series of horns in the minutes leading up to the actual blast. The blast itself lasted only a few seconds, but these sounds may have been noticed by anyone who was close to the area.
Below is a link to the drone video that was taken by DuPage County staff during the blast.
Currently Hi-Tech Rockfall Construction, Inc. is performing scheduled post-blast rock scaling and installation of rock dowels. This work will take 1-2 weeks to complete. The installation of the final 60 FT ( /-) section of 72” storm sewer will take place within the coming weeks. After the last segment of storm sewer is installed the piping will be 100% complete from the Quarry all the way to Third and Evergreen at the upstream end of the project.
